LATAM Community

Alex from Buenos Aires is one of the five founding members of LATAM Cardano. The group got together in 2021 as a group of Cardano evangelists who wanted to do more to support the LATAM Community and encourage adoption of Cardano. With a population of over 660 million people in more than 30 countries, Cardano's success in Latin America could play a significant factor in the speed of its global adoption. This is a large and challenging community to support. Social and friendly but also geographically decentralized and multilingual, this group will require multiple areas of focus. While 30% of this community lives at or below the poverty line, it is also the second region in the world in software development sector growth.
With all of this in mind, the LATAM community decided that they wanted to create an organization that was open to all. A group that is inclusive, not constrained, and flexible enough to meet the community's diverse needs. They decided not to form a DAO or a stake pool because they didn't want to be in competition with other potential members of the community. After conferring with several Catalyst individuals, they decided to create a town hall for anyone with an interest in LATAM to come and speak. The weekly meetings are held in both Spanish and Portuguese so that everyone can have a voice. There are also discord, twitter, telegram and YouTube channels.
Their mission is to educate political institutions, companies and individuals about Cardano’s potential to facilitate growth in the region. They also want to help Cardano community members in their endeavors. They have experienced team members in their group that have started to help with Catalyst proposals. They are happy to assist with proposals at all levels - from initial organization to translation and execution.
In order to help the community grow more quickly, they have specialized groups that focus on other areas of interest. There is an NFT group, for example, that offers assistance to people interested in creating or minting NFT projects, an Education group that focuses on technical education and a Translation group that offers language support to and from Spanish and Portuguese.
This is a very active and future focused group. They are dedicated to several areas. First, they intend to increase the participation of the LATAM software developers sector in the Cardano ecosystem. From there, they intend to nurture and facilitate participation in both Plutus and Atala Prism programs. Their outreach is based on the build locally, think globally methodology. The focus is to help build quality proposals and projects within the community. Experienced members will mentor new proposers and help them organize and structure proposals and projects while they are still in the early stages. In this way, they will reduce frustration and increase success. As a result of not running a stake pool or a DAO, they are able to offer assistance to everyone in the LATAM community.
Their focus continues to be promoting Cardano and trying to understand how to build locally in a global way. They want to foster a diverse and inclusive community where everyone feels like they have a voice. LATAM Community is dedicated to the success of their members and to the success of Cardano. They are working as a dedicated team to make sure that everyone has an opportunity in the Cardano ecosystem. More information about this group is available here.
