ADA DOG Pool - Sabrina's Story

I wanted to write a blog post about DOG pool and sent Sabrina, one of its proprietors, some questions. Her response was far better than anything that I could write. It is the story of young people trying to live in a global world and struggling with archaic financial systems and remittances, their travels, and their decision to open a stake pool to create a better world. To me, this goes to the heart of Cardano - the desire to create a more equitable, more mobile world. With that, here is Sabrina's story in her own words:

We are a group of passionate dog lovers from different countries who also love the philosophy of Cardano. We believe that Cardano can make a better world not only for humans but also for animals. DOG pool’s mission is to help canine charities to give rescue dogs a home, and prevent them being killed in inhumane ways. We believe that together we can make dogs live a much better life.

We are Taiwanese descendants, two of us were born in Argentina but now living in Taiwan. Taiwan, also known as Formosa (beautiful island), officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a small island country in East Asia. It shares maritime borders with the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the northwest, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan has an area of 35,808 square kilometers, where its highly urbanizedpopulation is concentrated. The capital is Taipei. With 23.45 million inhabitants, Taiwan is among the most densely populated countries in the world. It is also a democratic developed country. Because the country's financial system is quite trustworthy, very few people invest in cryptocurrency. Most people still believe in the traditional banking system and financial services- people mostly invest in stocks and real estate.

We first got into Crypto because of the lack of transparency, the bureaucratic and insufficient banking systems in South America. There are too many limitations to transfer money to elsewhere. Usually, we needed to do it outside the system paying high fees incurring long delays and some risk. Or we had to ask some friends to carry the money for us. When we got to know the philosophy of Cardano with academic seriousness, we decided to support Cardano, and we changed our crypto into Cardano.

In 2020 my brother and I decided to go back to Taiwan to study at the university. We found out that there are too many stray dogs in Taiwan. Due to the small living space, some people are more likely to abandon their dogs because of lack of the space or maybe don´t want to disturb their neighbors when dogs bark (A collectivist culture is predominant in Asia, harmony within a community or neighbors is important). So, the consequence is that people may abandon dogs because of the neighbor complaints. It is easy to see stray dogs on the street.

As we are dog lovers (one of us even has adopted 5 dogs) and we love the Cardano philosophy of diversity and inclusiveness, we wanted to do something for dogs and at the same time promote Cardano in Taiwan. Therefore, we decided to set up a stake pool. Taiwanese are mostly friendly, inclusive and love helping others, so we also share our pool's info in Cardano Taiwan(Facebook) and have some delegators from Taiwan.

Our long-term goal is to let more Taiwanese know about Cardano, and although our pool is small and we don't have many delegators, we sincerely hope our pool will continue to grow. While we are aware that currently almost all small pools are facing difficulty finding delegators, and the protocol doesn´t offer much help to small pools. We hope the protocol will be changed in the future, to better support small pools. This would allow us to provide better rewards to our delegators.

At the moment we are working only with three small stray dog shelters. We know that big or famous shelters tend to catch more attention and get more donations, so we are only looking for smaller shelters to donate to.

Pariah Dog Koh Samui ( Accepts donation in ADA) https://www.pariahdogsamui.com/

2. Pingtung Huang Xue Mom Dog shelter in Taiwan ( only bank transfer and deposit) this is the facebook link:

This Grandma spends most of her money in adopting dogs, she has already adopted nearly 1,000 stray dogs. At first, she felt pity because her daughter in 2006 brought home two dogs that were about to be euthanized. Since then, she started adopting stray dogs, quitting her job to and spending all her money taking care of them. Monthly she needs 900 bags of dog foods, cans and medicine for dogs. Her family couldn´t afford it all by themselves, but as they consider dogs as their family members, they keep saving dogs lives.

3. Rescate 4 patitas : https://linktr.ee/Rescate4patitas in Argentina. (Accepts bank transfer and deposit ) It is a group of people that rescues dogs and cats and finds homes for the dogs through adoption. We sponsored part of the treatment of Lola with the surgery. We also helped a 9 year old Kyra to find her new home and sponsor with 20 KGs of food.

And this is my best friend and family Hachi, he is very naughty, he eats almost everything, this is the donation receipt we made to the charity in Taiwan. Hachi ate mostly of it but he looks happy and proud of it, even though he makes a lot of mistakes, we still love him !!

We are a small single pool with a big heart and beautiful mission, hopefully we will grow more soon and help more stray dogs in the world!!
